Hey everyone, I hope all of your summers were good & now with schools across America back in session, it's time for America to get...
That's right everyone & for those of you who've been living under a for the last week, tonight is the start of the NFL season at MetLife Stadium when the Super Bowl Champion Giants play host to their NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.
I say Dallas takes this one in a nail biter, here's my playoff picks that I'll be sticking to for the season:
NFC Predictions:
NFC East Champion- Dallas Cowboys
NFC West Champion- San Francisco 49ers
NFC North Champion- Green Bay Packers
NFC South Champion- Atlanta Falcons
NFC Wild Card- Philadelphia Eagles
NFC Wild Card- Detroit Lions
Notes: I say the Eagles & Lions edge out the Bears and the Giants for the Wild Card spots.
AFC Predictions:
AFC East Champion- New England Patriots
AFC West Champion- Oakland Raiders
AFC North Champion- Baltimore Ravens
AFC South Champion- Houston Texans
AFC Wild Card- New York Jets
AFC Wild Card- Pittsburgh Steelers
Notes: I say the Jets and Steelers get in as Wild Cards with the Broncos barely missing out.
That's it for today's post!
Tomorrow I'll be back to talk about the unveiling of the new New York Knicks uniforms! (I've seen them and they are awesome!!)

Knicks New Uniform Speculation
As stated on this blog back on December 20, 2011 I said that the Knicks will be donning new uniforms for the 2012-13 NBA season. I'm on the record of saying that I hope the new uniforms will resemble the uniforms that were used from 1968-79 & 1983-1997 (this hideous design was used from 1979-83 http://sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=nh3u1lmmt6g47rr5q6v5oemgd), for those of you unfamiliar with Knicks uniform history I'm talking about the uniforms that the Knicks wore when Carmelo Anthony debuted with the team (pictured above). The shorts weren't always the same but the jersey was. It looks like I'll be getting what I've wished for as the uniforms that have been in use since 2001 have been on clearance racks since the Knicks fell to the Heat in the playoffs. I may have to go over to nbastore.com & customize a swingman for myself (why not it's what they wore when I went to my first Knicks game back in 2008).
To add to the speculation this picture of a Jason Kidd t-shirt popped up on nbastore.com which has a new script and a new logo on the neck, it's not the old "Subway Token" logo but rather the new alternate/fauxback logo that was added last year which can be found on the great sportslogos.net:
The new Knicks keep adding to the speculation as recently acquired guard Ronnie Brewer has changed his twitter avatar to this (see below). Now you have to remember the day the Knicks used those uniforms, Ronnie was playing for the Bulls and he clearly knows how to perfect photoshop.
I really hope I'm right, I praying that through all of this (as far as logos & uniforms go); the primary logo is the only bad thing about this era. I wouldn't mind seeing the Knicks bring back the blue & orange Yankee style interlocking NY and the old logo that was used until 1992 brought back. I can't get everything I want but I will certainly take this!
Come September I'll have a full logo & uniform preview up for the 2012-13 NBA season. I'll have one for the NFL coming later this month.

Reviewing The Past Month
Hey everyone sorry for the lack of posts in the last month, my laptop got a virus a while back, i forgot the password to the site & my laptop's getting fixed now so I should have things the way I want them as soon as I get it back (hopefully soon!). I've been pretty busy this summer & so has the world of sports so without further adieu let's recap everything big that's gone down (with the exception of the Penn State Scandal, I will not comment on that situation, not my gig & it disgusts me!).
So let's see last time I posted LeBron didn't have a ring, Jeremy Lin was technically still a Knick, Rick Nash was a Blue Jacket, Zach Parise & Ryan Suter were out for new contracts, Zack Greinke was a Brewer, Ichiro was a Mariner, John Laurinaitis was ruling WWE with People Power and I was 18. Well all that's changed.
Lets start with the NBA, LeBron James finally won a Championship as the Heat beat the Thunder in the NBA Finals. Ray Allen later took his talents to South Beach with Rashard Lewis. Anthony Davis & Austin Rivers are off to the Big Easy as the newest Hornets. Jeremy Lin signed a tender with the Houston Rockets and Linsanity in New York came to an end when the Knicks refused to match the Houston offer. The Knicks dumped Jared Jeffries and brought back Ray Felton, Marcus Camby & Kurt Thomas in return to go along with Jason Kidd and Ronnie Brewer. Toronto nabbed Landry Fields in another RFA signing. The now Brooklyn Nets brought in Joe Johnson while re-upping Deron Williams, Kris Humphries, Brook Lopez & Gerald Wallace. Steve Nash is now a Laker, Lamar Odom a Clipper. Dwight Howard drama will certainly run through the rest of the off-season at the least.
Now to the NHL, Free Agency & Labor Negotiations are in full swing. Zach Parise and Ryan Suter were the most sought after targets on the market and both of them signed 13 year $98 million deals with the Minnesota Wild. Jaromir Jagr sees bigger things in Texas and signs with the Dallas Stars. Alex Semin is going to Carolina to join a team that now has 3/4 of the Staal brothers with the Draft Day addition of Jordan Staal. My Rangers lost Brandon Prust & Rulsan Fedetenko to free agency to Montreal and Philadelphia respectively while adding Taylor Pyatt, Jeff Halpern and Aaron Asham. The team also traded Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Tim Erixon and a 2013 first round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Rick Nash, Steven Delisle & a 2013 third round draft choice.
I'll try to get in an MLB trade deadline recap in tomorrow. I'm pleasantly surprised by the Ichiro to the Yankees deal, barring an injury in the next two days I'll be seeing him live this Wednesday when I go see my Yankees take on the 2nd place Orioles!
In WWE, I witnessed the end of the "People Power" Era in WWE as John Laurinaitis was "fired" by Vince McMahon at June's No Way Out (Great Show for a non Big 4 PPV). Monday Night RAW made TV History with it's 1000th Episode on July 23rd.
We are now back to football as NFL Training Camps are underway across the nation!
Now as far as my summer's gone, if you're following me on twitter (@mike_iannaccone) you'll know by now that I've been to my share of events since the last blog post which includes:

Summer Series #1 "Ranking NHL Uniforms"
30. Dallas Stars- The Stars NEED a new uniform set, their transition into the Reebok Edge Era hasn't started off well so it would be nice to see Dallas return to a green jersey in a non-football like uniform.
29. Ottawa Senators- Ottawa took a huge step this past season by ditching their "Sens" jersey and going with a nice fan designed alternate that recognizes the history of the original Senators, now if only the team could give their home & road uniforms a much needed facelift.
28. Minnesota Wild- While the wild have kept their white jersey the same throughout their history, the only reason they rank so low on my list is because of their home jersey. The home jersey would be good as the alternate it was from 2003-07 but having a jersey that looks nothing like its counterpart, there's only 1 team who's allowed to get away with that in the NHL, we'll see them later on in the countdown.
27. Colorado Avalanche- Colorado's Edge transition is better then Dallas' but they could have done better, to me their original uniforms were so nice, they could have gone with a different template (like their thirds) to possibly make an improvement.
26. Columbus Blue Jackets- Columbus is another team who could have done better in the Edge transition. While their current set is 100 times better then what they debuted with back in 2000, but after seeing concepts for what could have been, they could have had something special.
25. Calgary Flames- Calgary has such a nice alternate/throwback uniform, they should just follow their fellow Albertans & go with something from the past full time!
24. Anaheim Ducks- When the Anaheim shorted the team name & changed their colors they may have won the Stanley Cup but they certainly dropped in uniform rankings. They could have recolored the Mighty Duck logo (like they did for the shoulder patch on the new third) and used that. The webbed D is really nice but the entire word-mark makes the uniform look bad.
23. Florida Panthers- Florida did a good thing last season and made red their primary color on their home uniforms once again, they could however use a different template to get rid of most of the blue that still exists.
22. St. Louis Blues- Don't get me wrong, the Blues have nice uniforms but the reason for their low ranking is because of their lack of striping. It could be better, a lot better!
21. Tampa Bay Lightning- When the Lighting first adopted their "Tampa Bay Maple Wings" uniform set I was shocked how bad it was but after the modifications, I have to say the uniforms grew on me. While I do miss the black uniforms & victory stripes, these are a nice subtle change for Tampa, although I'm hoping for at least a black alternate in the near future.
20. Vancouver Canucks- The Canucks are another team with a better third jersey then their current home/away. Vancouver fans have been hoping for a change back to the stick in rink logo for the longest time and I hope they get it soon.
19. Washington Capitals- Reverting back to Red, White & Blue along with an updated logo was a nice touch for Washington in the Edge transition but I think that the Caps uniforms could be better if they added stars to the uniform just like in their original uniforms.
18. Carolina Hurricanes- The Hurricanes are one of those teams unfortunately down on this list. I think they have a uniform set that cant be touched but thanks to all the teams who have made their uniforms better over the years & fall to 18 on the list.
17. Winnipeg Jets- When Mark Chipman said that his team wouldn't have any red in their jerseys, I was skeptical but after seeing what his team came up with was great. They may not be the Jets of old but these uniforms are instant classics in my opinion. Now if only he could realize the money that could be made with a good third.
16. Pittsburgh Penguins- Everyone says the Penguins could have better uniforms, I disagree for the most part. A shoulder patch could work for them but I see nothing wrong with these uniforms, they made a better Edge transition then most of the other teams in the league but not as good as their Atlantic Division counterparts.
15. Phoenix Coyotes- The Coyotes have made significant improvements to their uniforms. Hopefully this uniform sticks around for a long time in the dessert but we never know with some of these southern teams with low attendance, no one saw Atlanta moving as quick as they did last year.
14. San Jose Sharks- The Sharks transition into the Edge Era was a great improvement over their Pre-Edge uniforms. Their uniforms now look traditional and classic, job well done by Sharks management!
13. Nashville Predators- When the Predators redesigned their uniforms before last years Draft, everyone thought they would be changing their alternate blue uniforms to their home and a white variant that was used at a team event as their road but Nashville went in a different direction. They became the first team since the 1966-67 Boston Bruins to wear gold as their dark uniform and not an alternate. The new uniforms truly embraced Nashville's "Music City" reputation by having guitar strings on their numbers, a guitar pick as a shoulder patch and piano keys inside their collar. Of all the original uniforms that have come along in recent years, this is a top notch uniform set.
12. Buffalo Sabres- The Sabres finally gave into their fans in 2010 by getting rid of the "Buffa-slug" uniforms and promoting their third jersey to their home uniform. Their current home/former third is an updated version of their original logo and added a white variant. While the jersey may lack a shoulder patch, I do like the fact that the numbers on the upper right chest have stayed.
11. Edmonton Oilers- Keeping with the trend of righting the wrongs in NHL Unifoms, the Edmonton Oilers finally reverted back to their original uniform set last season. While adding a retro third back in 2008 (like Buffalo) to satisfy fans from their horrible set. The third was promoted in 2009 before the set was completed before the 2011 Draft with the white jersey making a return and ridding Edmonton of their bland/practice like jerseys.
10. New York Islanders- Completing this trend is the New York Islanders, the Islanders had a great set in 1998 after ridding themselves of anything from their brief "Fisherman Era" but apparently didn't learn their lesson when the Edge Era began & yet again found themselves trying to right a wrong. In 2008 the team debuted a retro third (how original!) in the form of their pre Fisherman dark jersey. The Islanders deserve the top 10 for their home/road uniforms because of their history in them & inserting that history in their new uniforms (http://nhluniforms.com/Islanders/Patches/IslandersCrests.png). On my 3rd jersey countdown the Islanders won't be as high as this, but again this is about home & road uniforms.
9. Los Angeles Kings- When the Kings debuted their alternate uniforms back in 2008, they went to blend several eras into 1 jersey which was very successful. The Kings would use these uniforms at home during the playoffs and surprise surprise, the third got the promotion to home uniform. When Icethetics showed prototypes of a new alternate in October of 2010 it was confirmed these changes were on the way. The Kings did a good job in their transition and look what happened after this upgrade, in the sets first year the Kings won the Stanley Cup.
8. Philadelphia Flyers- The Flyers came into the Edge Era with minor modifications to their Pre-Edge black & white uniforms. When teams were able to add Third Jerseys in 08-09 it was no surprise the Flyers would bring out an orange jersey and they did so with their mid 70's orange jersey complete with the with nameplates. In April of 2009, before that years playoffs, the Flyers announced that going forward the Orange Third would be their new home uniforms. The next season the team kept their white uniforms the same but as we've seen with the throwback/third promotion trend, its days were numbered. That year the Flyers played in the 2010 Winter Classic, breaking out a 70's like white jersey with a new nameplate (an inverse of the home jersey's name plate) and before the 2010-11 season they made it their away uniform. The Flyers have really done a good job with their uniforms and have a classic set.
7. New Jersey Devils- The Devils are possibly one of the only teams to not make a big deal of the Edge transition. The Devils have kept the same uniforms since the fall of 1992 and have had only 1 major uniform change in their history by going from Red & Green to Red & Black. The Red & Green jerseys didn't look too different from the Devils current look and Lou Lamoriello is a man of tradition and hopefully the Devils never make a drastic change. Personally I know everytime I walk into a sporting goods store in this state, I know for a fact that I'll always see the same Devils jerseys hanging on the shelves. There's only 1 other team I can think of with a similar uniform history as the Devils, their 1995 Stanley Cup opponents, the Detroit Red Wings. Other then those two, it seems like every team has had more then 1 drastic uniform change in their history.
Now to I couldn't decided on these last few so I've decided that there's a 6 way tie for first & to no one's surprise it's these 6 teams...
THE ORIGINAL SIX
1. The Original Six (New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs & Boston Bruins)
Throughout the years and into the Edge Era, there have been 6 iconic uniform sets in the National Hockey League and it's no surprise it comes from it's senior members. While the Bruins uniforms weren't exactly classic from the fall of 1995 through the spring of 2007, they redeemed themselves in the fall of 2007 by reintroducing a look similar to their 1967-74 sweaters. The Maple Leafs on the other hand had a bad start to the Edge Era but redeemed themselves with a marvelous new set that debuted in the fall of 2010 and gave a vintage look to a team that's seen its fair share of changes through the years. The Canadiens have a classic set even though their uniform designs are different but it's been that way since the fall of 1947. The Red Wings haven't seen significant changes to their classic set since the fall of 1961. The Blackhawks may have undergone modifications to their logo but they perfected their uniforms in the fall of 1955. And last but not least, the Rangers. The Rangers uniforms have, for the most part, had RANGERS going down in a diagonal pattern with the exception of the 46-47 & 76-78 seasons. Even these teams third jerseys, winter classic jerseys and anniversary jerseys have been great. Montreal's Centennial jerseys were great to see on the ice, Toronto's alternates have been great, Boston's Winter Classic was nothing short of classic with their current third jersey logo paying homage to their 1924 logo, Detroit's 2009 Winter Classic uniform was spectacular, as was Chicago's jersey from the same game and Chicago's old black alternate fit well into their set & New York's are well off the chart beautiful with their heritage jersey honoring many past elements and doing the same for their 2012 Winter Classic Sweater.
That'll do it for the first Summer Series post, I'll be back throughout the Summer with more of them so as always STAY TUNED!
Presenting The "Summer Series"
Well being that I now have more free time to post, I'm going to start doing a series of lists which I call "The Summer Series". I know it may not be original but it will be interesting!
STAY TUNED!!

Zach Parise, "No Way NY"
It looks like this picture won't be changing anytime soon. As I've been informed time & time again today, Zach Parise said there is "no way" he'll sign with the Rangers and wants to stay with the New Jersey Devils. My friends have been texting me, facebooking me & tweeting me about this. I've heard "HA HA RANGERS SUCK" from one & from countless girls "my baby's staying! <3". My own father e-mailed me once he heard the announcement & my brother got on me and mocked my months of predicting Parise's arrival in Manhattan. So every Ranger fan, including myself, is wondering where do we go from here? Parise seemed like a perfect fit but then again he could have turned into Scott Gomez 2.0. The Rangers could wind up with Rick Nash but he would come at a heavy price with Columbus asking for a few First Round Draft Picks, Brandon Dubinsky, either Michael Del Zotto or Ryan McDounagh & Chris Kreider. That's obviously a steep price for the Rangers to pay but they could turn around and offer Dubinsky, Derek Stepan, Artem Anisimov and a draft pick or two for Nash. Are there alternatives? YES! Alexander Radulov, Jarome Iginla, Ray Whitney, Bobby Ryan...the list goes on. Let the Devils keep Parise and not resign their other key free agents, Patrick Elias is going to be a free agent, he'd be a good fit but a long shot. I'm sure at the end of the day Glen Sather will do what is right for the Rangers and hopefully make Parise regret not signing with the Rangers. Hopefully we don't have a lockout to keep us from waiting for the outcome of this madness that is the NHL Offseason.
Yankees Sweep Mets!
The first half of the Subway Series is over and the New York Yankees have taken the first 3 games from the Mets. Friday night the Yankees just pounced on Johan Santana and lit him up for 6 runs in 5 innings running Johan's ERA at the New Yankee Stadium to 12.21 in a 9-1 Yankee win. The Yankees would then take Game 2 on Saturday 4-2 thanks to a go ahead home run by Mark Teixeira in the 6th. The Sweep was completed Sunday after the Mets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd but a Russell Martin home run in the 7th and a Mark Teixeira RBI single in the 8th drew the Yankees even with the Mets. A misplayed fly ball into shallow right field cause Alex Rodriguez to reach base and drive in Curtis Granderson giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead going into the 9th. Rafael Soriano would give up an RBI double to Ike Davis in the top of the 9th to blow the save and bring the score back even at 4. After Boone Logan came in to shut the Mets down in the 9th, Russell Martin wasted no time blasting his 2nd home run of the game and giving the Yankees their first walk-off home run since September 8, 2010 and their first home sweep of the Mets since 2003.
(my shirt says MESS, not Mets)
As I stated Friday, I attended Sunday's game and it was by far the best game I've been to in years. I attended with my cousin Justin who was making his first appearance at the New Yankee Stadium. We enjoyed batting practice from the left field & Justin was tossed a BP ball from Miguel Batista but the ball was snagged by a kid who shoved me to go in and scoop it (bastard!), I felt bad for Justin (whos a few months older then I am but still the ball was going his way, it wasn't right!!). I was hoping that I wouldn't be sitting through a blowout either way and after the top of the 2nd I'll admit I was expecting to see one. Andy Pettitte did settle down after that and looked like the Pettitte of old compiling 8 strikeouts and collecting his 100th career pickoff in the process. Pettitte also had an amazing barehanded grab in the 6th, after Joe Girardi did a good John Rocker impression and sprinted to the mound to check on Andy who would stay in the game. It was a pretty bleak day so far for me until Russell Martin's first homer. I wasn't expecting the walk-off as quickly as it happened but I'll take it. Quiet Met fans are always fun to see, in my opinion. The Yankees will play in Atlanta, in Washington, back home for another Atlanta series and then the "road" series against the Mets.

Subway Series 2012 Preview
It's that time of the year again for New York baseball, the Subway Series between the Yankees of the American League & the Mets of the National League. The first time they played in the regular season was on June 16, 1997 with the Mets winning the first contest 6-0 at the Old Yankee Stadium but the Yankees would win the inaugural Series 2 games to 1. The greatest year in this rivalry was 2000, the Yankees won the regular season series 5 games to 1 including a Day-Night double header on July 8th where the Day game was played at Shea Stadium and the Night game was played at Yankee Stadium (the first time a double header was played in 2 different stadiums since 1903), the late game included the infamous Mike Piazza head-shot by Roger Clemens which gave Piazza a concussion. Who knew that the July 8th double header treat would be a tease for what would come later that season...
the 2000 World Series between the Yankees and Mets. It was a memorable series because for the first time since 1956 the Fall Classic was held solely in New York. The Yankees would take the 2000 World Series 4 games to 1.
Since 1997 the Mets have only won the season series twice 2004(4-2),08(4-2) while the Yankees have won the series: 1997(2-1),98(2-1),2000(5-1),01(4-2),03(6-0),09(5-1),11(4-2) & the 2000 World Series (4-1). They've tied at 3-3 in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2010.
This is my favorite time for the Yankees in the regular season, I know a lot of Mets fans and actually my mother's side of my family (minus my mother & my late grandmother) are Mets fans while my father's side is all Yankee fans. This rivalry gets very tense & the growth of social media has definitely intensified it. Back when they use to have Interleague play during the month of July the Subway Series use to happen around my birthday so my birthday parties use to see a mix of Yankee & Met shirts, that to me made my birthday parties more and more special. I enjoy the trash talking I do with my friends when it comes to the Subway Series, my friend Brandon & my other friend who lives in Barnegat are big Mets fans. My friend from Barnegat is a truly diehard Mets fan & it's been a battle going back & forth with trash talking since the 2005 season, it's always fun! If you're reading this from anywhere outside the New York Market, believe me when I tell you this rivalry is more intense for the fans then it is with the players, it's all about the bragging rights. I will be in attendance on Sunday afternoon with my cousin Justin (a Mets fan).
I'll be posting game by game results this weekend.
I'm sorry to any Met fans who are reading this, I have to say...
GO YANKEES!!
Enjoy the Subway Series & any other Interleague match-up you may be watching this weekend! :)
Message from Mike
Hey everyone I'm really sorry for not posting game-by-game results of the Stanley Cup finals, I've had a lot on my plate & the only period of the finals that I've watched was the OT in Game 1. Devils are down 3-1 headed to Newark tomorrow night at 8 on NBC.

Stanley Cup Finals Preview
And then there were 2...The New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings are in the Stanley Cup Finals after a long 82 game season & 3 rounds of exciting playoff action.
There's no need for a deep analysis preview, I like doing Previews simple here on this blog & here comes a short, sweet & to the point one:
Both teams are red-hot and this one could go 7. Both teams have gotten hot when it mattered the most, I had these two teams in my Conference Finals prediction when the Playoffs started (not on here unfortunately, we can thank Research Papers for that! I would have loved to do a Playoff Preview like I did with the NFL, I promise one for Next Year!) but I had them losing to the Rangers & Blackhawks respectively.
Here's my prediction: I say Devils in 5, Here's why: Marty Brodeur doesn't look like he can be stopped this postseason and when it comes down to it, Lou Lamoriello has put together another great squad that will defeat the Kings and give New Jersey it's 4th Stanley Cup.
Remember folks while I may be from the Garden State...I, like my Governor, am a New York Rangers fan so my location had nothing to do with me picking the Devils just like back in February this Jets fan picked the Giants to win the Super Bowl.
When it comes down to it: predicitons mean nothing, the play on the ice does. We'll have to find out how this series goes when the puck drops in Newark tonight at 8PM EDT on NBC. Just like the Eastern Conference Finals, I will do a game-by-game recap for the Stanley Cup Finals.

Devils Win Game 6, Advance to Stanley Cup To Face Kings
The New Jersey Devils have defeated the New York Rangers in 6 games to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. Just like in 1994 New Jersey jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the Rangers came back to tie the game. The only difference between 1994 & 2012, this one went to OT & New Jersey came out on top 63 seconds in thanks to an Adam Henrique goal. I was unable to watch Game 6 down in Cape May but thanks to Twitter & Verizon GameCenter I checked the score whenever I could. I'm enjoying my vacation but this put a little damper on it, one minute I'm down about the Rangers down 2-0, the next I'm happy because I hear they tied it & after that I'm upset after hearing about the Henrique goal. Here's my reaction to the game:
I went from enjoying a campfire to this within minutes, I'm 18 years old & couldn't help it...that's what happens when you have the passion of being a true fan.
My father & brother let my mother & I hear it about the game. I contacted every die-hard Devils fan I know to say "Hey you got us, good series". First up was my best friend since 6th grade & I let her rub it in & from there it got easier with every call/text/tweet/facebook. It's going to be a long summer for my fellow Ranger fans & I but I have a feeling that they'll be back next year & hopefully go all the way.
Back to the Devils...
The Devils earned this one, their 4th line played amazing all series & Marty Brodeur was on fire. Congratulations to the Devils who will now play the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Finals where the winner will be the lowest seed to ever win the Stanley Cup. It'll be a good one, that's for sure. The Stanley Cup Finals begins Wednesday at 8PM Eastern on NBC at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Devils Take Game 5
The New Jersey Devils are now 1 win away from moving on to the Stanley Cup Finals with a 5-3 win over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The Devils came out firing in the first 15 minutes, scoring 3 goals on 5 shots by Stephen Gionta, Patrick Elias & Travis Zajac. The Rangers began a comeback with a late 1st Period Goal by Brandon Prust. 32 seconds into the 2nd Period, Ryan Callahan would bring the Rangers within 1 with a goal. The Rangers tied the game at 3, 17 seconds into the 3rd Period with a goal by Marian Gaborik. With under 5 minutes left in the game, Ryan Carter scored to put the Devils up 4-3 and an empty netter by Zach Parise ended the scoring in this one.
Game 6 is tonight & if this year is like 1994 then May 25 should see the Rangers tie the series. We'll have to see tonight at 8 on the NBC SportsNetwork.
The winner of this series will face the LA Kings, who won the Western Conference Finals over the Phoenix Coyotes 4 games to 1.

Devils Take Game 4
The Devils came out firing in Game 4 and tied the Eastern Conference Finals at 2 games a piece. The Devils scoring started 8:10 into the game with a goal by Bryce Salvador then about 4 minutes later Travis Zajac put the Devils up 2-0. Following a scorless 2nd period then Devils tallied their 3rd goal of the evening off of a Zach Parise Power-Play goal. Ruslan Fedotenko scored a goal for the Rangers to break a potential Shutout for Marty Brodeur but an empty net goal for Zach Parise put an end to the scoring as the Devils won this one 4-1.
Things in this one got really, really ugly. Ryan Callahan and Ilya Kovalchuk got into a few spats during this one while a comment from Marty Brodeur got him a punch from Mike Rupp after Rupp had been called on a pair of Roughing penalties which ultimately landed him a game misconduct. Stu Bickel and Ryan Carter earned themselves misconducts after an altercation. As if it wasn't enough with the players Devils coach Peter DeBoer and Rangers coach John Tortorella engaged in an argument that NBC's Pierre McGuire was standing in the middle of. This rivalry is getting very intese as the series now shifts to MSG for a pivotal Game 5 tonight at 8 on the NBC SportsNetwork.
The ending of this one reminded me of the Seinfeld episode "The Face Painter" when David Puddy was bragging about how the Devils "took it to" the Rangers in a Game 4 with Cosmo Kramer replying "There's still 3 games left in this series!" Clearly that was the response from myself as my phone, facebook, twitter & even in my own house I heard trash talk from Devil fans. Here's the clip for everyone to watch from the classic Seinfeld episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftUR6AFTNMA
Sorry this Game 4 recap is up late, my WiFi was down since Monday night, I will post a Game 5 recap tomorrow at some point & if I'm lucky enough that I get the advertised WiFi at Big Timber Lake Camping Resort down in Goshen, NJ, I will post a Game 6 recap. If not you'll have to check my twitter (@Mike_Iannaccone) and the blog will be updated upon my return from my annual Camping Trip which I'm leave for Friday Morning!
On that note I hope everyone enjoys Game 5 tonight, I will not be watching or tweeting tonight as I will be attending a wake for my Great Aunt who passed away last Saturday. I'm lucky enough to have one of my best friends (a big Devils fan) updating me on tonight's game while I'm unable to watch.
Thanks for reading

RANGERS TAKE GAME 3!
In a carbon copy of Game 1 the Rangers and Devils went 40 plus minutes without a goal Dan Girardi broke the tie with a Power-Play goal. Chris Kreider, who's scored in every game of this series, then tacked on a goal to make it 2-0 Rangers. Ryan Callahan topped off the Rangers scoring with an empty netter to ice the 3-0 win for the Rangers. The goaltending in this game was absolutely phenomenal, Brodeur and Lundqvist are really showing why they're the best in the Eastern Conference. The Rangers now lead the Eastern Conference Finals 2 games to 1. Game 4 is Monday night 8PM on the NBC SportsNetwork.
Out West the Kings can sweep the Coyotes tomorrow at 3 on NBC and advance to the Stanley Cup to await the winner of this series.
The Rangers gave The Broadway Hat to Henrik Lundqvist today after his 36 save shutout win over the Devils
I'll be back Monday night after the conclusion of Game 4.

Devils Take Game 2
The New Jersey Devils have drawn even with the New York Rangers with a win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Ilya Kovalchuk started the scoring for the Devils in the first with a Power-Play goal. The Rangers would come back in the 2nd and a Mark Staal Power-Play goal tied it for the Rangers before yet another Ranger Power-Play goal by Chris Kreider put the Rangers up 2-1 after a delay with the Penalty Box door not opening (you'll be seeing that on the SportsCenter Not Top 10). Before the end of the 2nd, however, the Devils would tie the game with a goal from Ryan Carter. The game then shifted to the 3rd and David Clarkson beat Henrik Lundqvist to put the Devils up for good 3-2. This game, like the first was a tight goaltending contest and has not let up any excitment in this series. The series now shifts over to Newark with Game 3 Saturday at 1PM on NBC SportsNetwork. I gotta give it up for the Devils they earned this hard fought victory. I don't think the Devils have an MVP of the game award & if they do I'll do an update with it.
SERIES TIED 1-1
& for those of you wondering about the Western Conference Finals: LA Kings up 2-0 on the Coyotes in that Series with Game 3 tomorrow night at 8 on NBCSN

RANGERS WIN GAME 1!
The Rangers & Devils engaged in an almost 41 minute (40:53 to be exact) scoreless tie in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals before Dan Girardi got a shot past Marty Brodeur and put the Rangers up 1-0. 11 minutes & 7 seconds later Chris Kreider netted a powerplay goal to make it 2-0 Rangers with 8 minutes to play. An empty netter from Artem Anisimov with 1:27 to go and that was it for scoring as the Rangers went on to win by a score of 3-0.
The score in this one did not translate the game played. The game was a superb goaltending and defensive effort on both sides, I have a feeling that we'll see a lot more games like this in this series and if we are then we're in for a treat.
The Rangers gave the Broadway Hat (the team's MVP of the game award) to Dan Girardi
I'll be back Thursday morning for the Game 2 report.

Eastern Conference Finals Preview: Devils-Rangers
I figured this would be a good start to my post research paper/finals blog. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are down to the Conference Finals, out West we're down to the LA Kings & Phoenix Coyotes. No disrespect to those teams but in the New York Metro Area all we care about when it comes to the NHL is Devils-Rangers. For the next two weeks, only a 20 minute train ride will separate the venues and I'm more then sure that NJ Transit trains will be full of Red & Blue Sweaters. In the Area, it's felt like these two teams have been on a collision course for a playoff series all season long. It's no secret that the series is going to come down to Defense and Goaltending so for anyone expecting a Pittsburgh-Philadelphia like scoring series, you'll be disappointed. The Rangers are coming in off 2 exciting series with the 2 lowest seeds in the East, while the Devils went through a "better team" in the Panthers in 7 games and a Flyers team with a hit or miss goalie in 5(if Bryz doesn"t make that mistake Game 5 could have gone either way). They split the Season Series so will it be another 1994 ECF Classic? We'll have to see what goes down and see who sets the tone in Game 1 tonight at MSG.
Tensions are going to be high both on and off the ice. Whether it's with Marty and Hank or between Friends, Co-Workers and in my case Family. For those wondering why a New Jerseyan is rooting for New York's team: I live in Jersey and don't get me wrong I love it here but when it comes to sports, I'm in an Empire State of Mind & it's because of my mom that I'm a Ranger fan. My house is divided between my mom and I (Ranger fans) and my brother and my father (Devil fans). My two closest friends agree & disagree with me: one's a Devil fan & Brandon's a Ranger fan. At the South Amboy Y, Brandon and I have only 1 other Ranger fan Co-Worker. Sayreville is a Devils infested town & (aside from my mother & Brandon) can only think of a few other Ranger fans...my mailman gave me a dirty look today with a Devil towel hanging in his truck, I drive down the street and I hear Rangers suck from my neighbors...it's rough to be a Ranger/Jet/Knick fan in this town, trust me!
I say the Rangers take care of the Devils and lose one road game, my prediction- Rangers in 5. My dad & brother are saying Devils in 6. I respect Marty Brodeur but i think Henrik Lundqvist will outdo him in this series. Marty may be 7-2 all time in the final 2 rounds of the Playoffs but remember he started 0-1 with that Game 7 loss to the Rangers in the 1994 ECF. If this really is the 1994 team reincarnated, we have to get through the Devils to play for Lord Stanley.
Out West I say Coyotes in 6. My dog Max would certainly be happy with that outcome...
due to all the different fandoms in my family besides the Yankees, I decided to declare Max a fan of Dog related teams (Browns, Timberwolves & Coyotes) even though he was adopted blocks away from Prudential Center.
1 more Devil-Ranger related note- a picture of mine from the Devil-Ranger game I went to back in March was published on icethetics.info and the blog portion of sportslogos.net because I tweeted the Devils announcement of the Devils wearing their throwbacks on St. Patrick's Day. http://www.icethetics.info/blog/2012/3/10/going-green-for-a-game.html http://www.sportslogos.net/blog/2012/03/08/logo-links-mar-8-2012-yankees-farm-team-new-name-nhl-st-pattys-day-jerseys/ great publicity for the blog on 2 great websites, so appreciative of Chris & Chris for publishing the picture for their readers.
Anyways...
Go Rangers! follow me on twitter for updates @Mike_Iannaccone (forgot the password for the Blog's twitter...oh well i'll figure it out sooner or later)

A Message From Mike
Hey Everyone sorry for the lack of posts. I'm sure any college student will tell you this & I'm no different but with all these research papers I have to do being due all at the same time on top of work has made it really hard for me to post some new material on the blog. I promise within the next week or so I'll have something up for everyone but in the meantime I'm gonna thank everyone for their patience.

TEBOW TRADE OFFICIAL!
Tim Tebow is now officially a New York Jet! The fact that his choice was between my team & my brother's team was nerve racking. Tebow played for Danny's college team, Florida & now he's on my pro team, the Jets! As mentioned before my replica Tebow Jets jersey will be shipped and arrive at my house by Saturday! Come football season, I'm probably going to turn into Skip Bayless with the support I have for Tebow! I feel that him & Sparano in one system is a good mix. Good night everyone!
WWE at MSG
I started on this article when I got home from the WWE show at MSG last Sunday night & due to work/school I've had to delay it a few days so here's what I got:
I've mentioned before that I'm a WWE fan and while some of you may ridecule me for liking it, it's not going to change my opinion. While it's no big secret that WWE isn't real, sorry if I burst anyone's bubble but I do find WWE to be very entertaining. Sunday night I attended a WWE Supershow at Madison Square Garden and it was nothing short of a great show. I'm not the only Sports Journalist to have an interest in WWE, Bill Simmons, Robert Flores, Michelle Beadle...just to name a few. This was my 4th time seeing WWE Live (1 RAW Houseshow, 1 SmackDown! Houseshow, 1 Supershow Houseshow & the 7/11/05 editon of Monday Night RAW) and 1st time at MSG for a WWE event. I was entertained throughout the evening and not bored once. The only bad thing (if you can call it that) was being behind the titantron, I actually was able to see more then I was suppose to (see below).
My friend Tom & I were talking about all the different WWE T-Shirts we were seeing in Penn Station. As I was going up a Penn Station escalator to the Garden I was behind the parents of WWE Superstar Zack Ryder (ironically I was telling Tom about Zack Ryder's new t-shirt & how it incorporates the Statue of Liberty in the form of the Statue of LiBROty) and I waited for someone to address Zack's dad before I did (I'm not the guy to draw unwanted attention to someone) I shook Mr. Ryder's hand and then he went over to will call, my guess is to pick up his tickets that Zack probably left for him. Then during the show's intermission I met another member of the Z! True Long Island Story cast, Big O. Big O was a great guy & put his sandwich on hold to take pictures & greet fans. For those of you unfamiliar with Z! True Long Island Story, it's a YouTube show that saved Zack Ryder's job & started the Ryder Revolution. I can cross Mr. Ryder & Big O off the list of Z!TLIS cast members I've met, so now there's only: Chiappetta, Scott Stanford, Dolph Ziggler & Zack Ryder. I've gotten tweets from Stanford & Chi but seeing them in person would be really cool.
Now to the Road To WrestleMania Supershow!
(Big Unit & Big O! I obviously wasn't ready for the pic)
Now to the Road To WrestleMania Supershow!
I got to my seats and the show opened with Justin Roberts & Scott Armstrong walking to the ring, the National Anthem played & the RAW intro played (no pyro though).
In the first match, Zack Ryder defeated The Miz. Good start, the match got the crowd hot, the crowd was really behind Ryder from the first WOO WOO WOO until the last. Excellent choice by WWE to start the show with this one. NOTE- It was great to see Long Island Iced Z live!
In the next match, Primo & Epico (w/Rosa Mendes) defeated R-Truth & Kofi Kingston to retain the WWE Tag Team Titles. Truth & Kofi initally won but John Laurinaitis reversed the refs decision after Primo had his foot on the ropes. Then the champs took advantage of the confusion with Primo hitting the backstabber and picking up the win. NOTE- I could barely hear Laurinaitis with all the heat he got, he was without Otunga.
In the next match, Santino Marella defeated Jack Swagger (w/Vickie Guerrero) to retain the US Title. Similar result as the last title match but this time Laurinaitis stood on stage and applauded Swagger before Teddy Long reversed the decision because Swagger used the ropes for leverage and Hornswoggle made an appearance biting Swagger which allowed Santino to hit the Cobra on Swagger to retain. Marella, Long and Hornswoggle celebrated and danced after the match.
Between matches I noticed Vince McMahon standing backstage with some of the road agents.
In the next match, Alberto Del Rio defeated Mason Ryan. Quick match to say the least as Del Rio was able to get Ryan to tap within 5 minutes. NOTE- Hearing Del Rio's entrance in English isn't the same...I wish Ricardo Rodriguez would have shown, he was advertised on TheGarden.com.
In the next match, CM Punk, Randy Orton & Triple H defeated Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes & Dolph Ziggler. As soon as the match started Jericho grabbed a mic and reminded everyone that he was the true "best in the world at what he does". Punk went after him the whole match and Jericho grabbed a chair playing the cowardly heel very well. Towards the end of the match, Jericho broke Triple H's cover on Ziggler and Punk chased him down and threw him into the titantron. Orton RKO'd Rhodes to take him out & Punk hit the GTS on Ziggler. Triple H picked Ziggler up and appeared to be going for a Pedigree until he did an Undertaker Throat Slash & hit Ziggler with a Tombstone. NOTE- I was expecting at least a message from Undertaker after the match.
INTERMISSION
After Intermission Eve came out to a loud "HOESKI" chant from the MSG Crowd. She tried to apologize for her recent actions and no one would give her a chance. So she set up the next match...
In the next match, The Divas of Doom (WWE Divas Champ Beth Phoenix & Natalya) defeated Tamina & Kelly Kelly. Good filler match to get everyone back from intermission. Kelly was about to get Beth for the win but Eve interfered while the ref was distracted (inciting more HOESKI chants) and Beth hit a Glam Slam on Kelly for the win. NOTE- Camera battery was low at this point so I saved it for the main event matches
In the next match, Daniel Bryan defeated Big Show & Mark Henry in a triple threat match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Daniel Bryan entered and everyone chanted "YES YES YES" with him (personal favorite chant of the night). Formal ring introductions for this one and even some "Sexual Chocolate" chants towards Mark Henry. Big Show hit Henry with a chokeslam but Daniel Bryan chopblocked him so he could pin Henry and retain. After Show & Henry got up, Show hit the WMD on Henry and left.
In the Main Event, John Cena defeated Kane in a Last Man Standing Match. As soon as Mark Henry started walking up the ramp the "Let's Go Cena, Cena Sucks" chants were going and Cena's music hit. He looked at 111 & 113 before he did his salute and hit the ring. Cena & Kane brawled for a little bit then they got weapons into the match. A few chair shots to the back by both guys to each other then Kane grabbed a microphone & hit Cena in the head with it (I was shocked because it's the "PG Era"). Kane introduced 2 tables to the match: the first he used to throw Cena through in the corner, the second he set up in the ring. Kane went for a chokeslam but Cena reversed it into an Attitude Adjustment for the win. After the match Cena actually hyped up the crowd & there weren't any loud "Cena Sucks" chants(well except for the little girl who sat behind me & cried when Cena won).
I was blown away by how well done the show was and the new stage introduces a TV like feel but at the same time keeps the simpleness of a house show. Overall there were only 2 major errors I found in the show:
1. When Ryder's music hit, Miz's entrance video played for about 45 seconds before they fixed it
2. John Cena may have been playing to the New York crowd but he really needs to remember where WrestleMania 29's going to be taking place: MetLife Stadium: East Rutherford, New Jersey. And when he said "New York" he got a lot of heat from the New Jersey members of the crowd, even from people wearing his shirt. Also this is the first WWE event I went to without seeing Edge, I got the privilege to see him & high 5 him last year during his final reign as World Heavyweight Champion & I'll show the picture I got below:
I was shocked & disappointed to not see: Sheamus, Christian, Ricardo Rodriguez & Great Khali
Here's some other good pictures that I took:
I was expecting a message from The Rock to hype up RAW but he was too busy with "Team Bring It Philly"...not exactly the best place to be when WWE's in NY. Now I'm hearing that this year's Money In The Bank PPV will be held at iZod Center in June, house shows may be great for more in ring action but nothing beats a ladder match live but then of course I'm hearing at the same time No Way Out will be at iZod Center. That'll do it for today's post and since I talked a little Zack Ryder earlier I'm gonna close this post out "Long Island Iced Z" style:
